Will of Hiram Jones© Harlan, Harlan County, Kentucky, USA Court records Will Book 1, pgs 52-53 [ view image: page 52 and page 53 ] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the name of the Lord, Amen, feeling to be of sound mind and disposing memory and viewing the uncertainty of life and the certainty do make this my last will and testament, when my five daughters married off and left me I gave them property such as nigh equal as I could between that time and this each heir received as follows to wit: Mary Howard, Milton E Howard's first wife, now deceased left these children to wit: Emily GHoward now Emily Lewis, Hampton Lewis' wife; Adaline Howard, Elijah Howard's wife; and Milton Howard Jr., the above named children have received property in real estate I value at fifteen hundred dollars. Emily Sergent, Allen Sergent's wife received five hundred and fifteen dollars Sally Turner, James Turner's wife have received six hundred dollars Louisanna Cawood, John Cawood's wife have received sixteen hundred dollars Fanny Lewis, Wilson Lewis' wife and her children have received in real estate twenty-seven hundred and fifty dollars That part of my estate that would be coming to John Cawood's wife if any which I think there will be instead of giving it to her I will it to her four oldest children, to wit: Nancy Carter, Rachel Hensley, Hiram, and Green Cawood. Hiram and Nancy Cawood have each received one hundred and eighty three dollars and 99 cents of their part all that different heirs has received that is not received in the will I hold their receipts for same. I will make my heirs as nigh equal as I can and any of them that goes to lawing over my estate, my will is that they get nothing and is cut out of any part of my estate whatsoever. I hereby appoint Jonathan K. Bailey of Mount Pleasant, Kentucky my executor and wind up my business affairs with my legal heirs. Signed: Hiram Jones This Sept. 19 1887 Attest: T.S.
